Northampton, MA, Contemporary Cottage at Laurel Park

A new contemporary cottage was designed and built to replace a 100 year old 3 season cottage. This two story home features 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, locally sourced millwork and walking distance to downtown Northampton and the Fitzgerald Conservation Area. The home surpasses the Massachusetts Stretch Code for energy efficiency.

Leverett, MA, Contemporary New Home

This home was designed by Don Simms in collaboration with the Owners and features 10’ high ceilings on two levels of open space living. Features include large windows, locally sourced millwork, a private sleeping loft and a large timber frame 3 season porch. This home surpasses the Massachusetts Stretch Code for energy efficiency.

Hampshire County, MA

The parameters for this home were established as the house design utilizes an existing foundation and incorporates conventional framing techniques with timber frame elements. The functional cupola is a private reading room with 360 degree views. The floor plan features a master bedroom suite with a sitting area on the first level and two bedrooms and a bathroom on the second level. An open walkway leads to the cupola from the second level.

Northfield, MA, Historic Cottage

A multi-year collaboration between the owner and Don Simms created this unique orginal designed home in Northfield, MA. The architectural design concepts were pulled from historic cottage and shingle style homes located in Westerly, Rhode Island.

Northfield, MA, Single Family

The single family contemporary tree house was designed by Don Simms in Northfield, MA. The house features magnificent 50 mile views and is setback from the road for maximum privacy. The eclectic design emphasizes the use of local building materials.

Athol, MA, Proposed New Office / Workshop

This is the new proposed office / workshop designed  in collaboration with a local non profit land trust organization in Athol, MA. The new building will be situated adjacent to their existing offices. The building will incorporate local building materials, a hybrid timber frame construction and a photovoltaic array generating the electrical requirement for both office buildings. The space will serve as a meeting place for the Board of Directors, additional office space and a library.

Quinn Residence, Shelburne, MA

This single family will be constructed in Shelburne and features three bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms / laundry room and an open floor plan, with a walk out lower level. The design features advanced framing technology and surpasses energy efficiency performance standards pursuant to the Massachusetts building code.

West Brattleboro, VT

Don Simms designed this new home in collaboration with the owner. The home was built on an old house site overlooking 200 plus beautiful Vermont acres. The home design considers an aging in place single floor living space, super insulation to meet Efficiency Vermont standards and has a very efficient multiple zoned radiant heating system

Tree Farm Residence, Franklin County, MA

Don Simms designed this small Franklin County home in collaboration with the owner. The house overlooks a nut tree orchard. It is a super-insulated home which combines energy efficiency and functional utility. The use of multiple wood materials were utilized in the construction, including Oak, Hickory, Cherry and Walnut. This single-story home features two bedrooms, a full bathroom with laundry, a large great room, a kitchen with loft space, and a mechanical room.
